I'm the only science teacher in the wing today, which means I am dutifully drinking the entire pot of coffee I made before I knew my colleagues were going to be out.

Today in the classroom:

We're starting a new unit on solutions in first year chem. Today, we'll do some notes on water's chemistry as a baseline. I'm still trying to decide what lab to do this week.

Second year chem is moving into acid/base equilibria. We'll start with some water chemistry (Kw) and then look at dissociation constants (Ka, Kb) for Arrhenius acids and bases.

Hey @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net , the 7.9 update is failing during the package extraction on macOS 15.6. I can't seem to figure out why...any tips?

Today in the classroom:

First year chem is watching a short video on how carbon intensive cement is and then reading an article and doing some stoichiometry on new carbon-capture technology. They'll also do some test corrections on yesterday's unit test.

Second year chem will also do some test corrections. Theirs was a little worse than last time, but not orders of magnitude. We'll keep working on incremental improvements.
